 Abstract

In this study, we investigated the role of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) in working memory by identifying sequential activation patterns during an olfaction-guided spatial memory task in mice. Using one-photon calcium imaging, we analyzed PFC neuronal activity and observed dynamic shifts in these sequences during learning. We identified distinct sequence clusters encoding spatial position and distance to reward. Our findings suggest that PFC sequential activation, driven by both individual and co-activated cell groups, plays a critical role in working memory and task-related spatial encoding.
