Abstract
How do animals use sensory information to commit to a course of action? How do they integrate sensory evidence with potential outcomes, be they positive or negative, and how do they cope with to uncertainty in the face of dynamically changing environments? Perceptual choice tasks provide a unique opportunity to tackle these questions. In my talk, I will review a series of experiments employing perceptual choice tasks along with extracellular spike recordings to illuminate the neural mechanisms of signal detection, signal discrimination, and perceptual choice.
