In Conversation: Neuroscience meets Art

October 18, 2017: Uploading the brain to a computer - is this possible? This was the theme of a discussion between Prof. Stefan Rotter, Managing Director of the Bernstein Center Freiburg, and the audiovisual artist Lina Hermsdorf at the invitation of Freiburg's Kunstverein. "Immortalism" is the title of an exhibition which is bringing together works by different contemporary artists at Freiburg's Kunstverein. The artists all present different perspectives relating to visions, technologies, and ideologies of defeating death. The development of artificial intelligence and biotechnology have inspired projects that deal with the abolition of the temporal restrictions to human life. Enterprises of this kind, which address the conquering of human limitations via technological means, form the core of current transhumanist ideas.
 
At a special event entitled "Artist's Talk", performance and audiovisual artist Lina Hermsdorf invited Prof. Dr. Stefan Rotter to discuss neuroscientific possibilities of creating an immortal human brain.
