Bernstein Retreat at Kloster Lichtenthal
A short Review
Picking up pre-COVID traditions, the BCF hosted a scientific retreat for BCF members, their PhD candidates and PostDocs from Sep 23-25, 2024 at Kloster Lichtental near Baden-Baden. With 26 participants from 13 Freiburg labs, plus guest speakers Robin Hiesinger (FU Berlin) and Michael Wibral (U Göttingen), the workshop addressed the themes Synergies in Neuroscience, Neurotechnology & Artificial Intelligence, Development and Self-Organization of Network Structure and Cognitive Physiology.
Though not all BCF member labs could participate, presentations by junior scientists as well as PIs gave a great overview on many of the topics that the BCF’s scientists currently work on. Even though the days were packed with talks, discussions in small groups continued well into the evening, identifying new intersections of interest as well as following broad curiosity and engagement. The event illustrated, again, that such an informal setting is highly conductive for scientific exchange and networking across specific research fields, laboratories and generations.
